Sunshine For Senior's

The Bloom Project

Delivers daffodil plants & homemade cards to seniors either living alone or in long term care

A special initiative that

Delivers daffodil plants & homemade cards to seniors either living alone or in long term care

Loneliness is a reality for many seniors in our community, whether they live independently or in long-term care. Sunshine for Seniors - The Bloom Project was created to bring moments of connection and joy by delivering daffodil plants alongside heartfelt, handmade cards to seniors. These simple surprises received can brighten a day and remind someone that they are cared for and that they matter.

Since this initiative began, we’ve delivered nearly 10,000 daffodils and cards made possible by the incredible people who believe in this project. This year, we’re hoping to reach even more seniors, and your support helps make that happen.

The Bloom Project is also a meaningful way to involve children, helping them discover the joy of giving and connecting with others. For adults, it offers a chance to express creativity and make a genuine difference by crafting cards filled with warmth and kindness.

If you’d like to take part through donating, delivering, or contributing handmade cards please reach out to directly through the contact section.

Thank you for your generosity. Your support truly helps brighten the lives of seniors, especially during the long winter months.

THANK YOU!

The Rekai Centre

Thank you for connecting. The current Covid-19 restrictions have been challenging for our residents. After 2 years of lockdowns, many residents are feeling discouraged that things may never change. With limited resources, our staff have been working tirelessly to support residents\ physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being. Thankfully, restrictions are slowly starting to loosen. Residents are eagerly awaiting the day that they will be able to walk in the park, go to a coffee shop, and share a hug with their loved ones ` small, yet vital freedoms that we once had taken for granted.

When the daffodils were delivered last year, it truly was as though sunshine had been spread throughout our Home! It put smiles on the faces of residents, and lifted the spirit of staff members. Caring for the flowers also provides meaningful recreation and a feeling of purpose for our residents. Thank you very much for organizing such a wonderful initiative, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Sunnybrook Veterans Centre

To Sunshine for Seniors: On behalf of the WWII and Korean War Veterans, its Allied members and the Palliative Care patients who live here at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, I would like to thank you for the thoughtful donations of daffodils. We would like also to thank you to your three partner schools which sent along handmade cards and letters. The artwork and letters brighten up our rooms, and brought us a sense of community with those outside of the Veterans Centre. It was a great surprise on a rainy pre-Spring day to receive the flowers. And a perfect welcome to Spring, as some of them bloomed over the weekend to mark the first day of Spring. Thank you to your Organization for all that you do for Seniors, bringing them a little joy one plant at a time! We are truly thankful that you chose us to be part of your project this year. We wish you continued success on this year’s campaign and your future ones.

The Belmont

The surprise and delight that Sunshine for Seniors brought to Belmont House in the spring of 2021 lasted weeks! The delivery of hundreds of daffodil plants and homemade cards from children in the community were such a welcome after a long winter full of COVID-19 prevention measures.

It was a great joy to have daffodils blooming all over our home and we formed quite a game of counting and comparing the number of blooms & buds each had daily. All our gratitude goes to everyone who gave so generously. An act that may seem simply meant the world to all of us at Belmont House.

Most of the daffodil bulbs were collected and replanted outside in our gardens so that the seniors can enjoy the blooms every spring.

Meighan Manor

Thank you so much for brightening up the lives of our seniors. This is a program they soon won’t forget as you saw a lot of them still had the cards that were made from last year.

It’s such a thoughtful and meaningful thing that you, Riley and his classmates have done. We really appreciate it.

The feedback is that the gifts were utterly lovely and the residents cherished the flowers, many remaining in the dining room where they rapidly bloomed and lasted until the end of last week. The cards were so delightful, and some residents were in tears when they received them. You and your donors made such a positive impact in the psyche of our residents. After a long and lonesome winter, the touch of spring delivered by members of our community was the perfect reminder of the hope and prosperity that is around the corner. Thank you to everyone involved!

Thanks From Seniors

“The daffodils were a great surprise – spreading some

spring cheer on this rainy day!”

Thanks so much. My resident’s loved them!

They said, “Oh how pretty!” and “The first sign of

Spring”.

Others loved the cards and said, “Wow, how talented

for 7 year old!”

“What a beautiful way to start Spring!”

“Oh how beautiful”

“That’s lovely”

“Oh I don’t have any money for that” (staff explains

that they were donated and they are free) “that’s

excellent! How kind, please let them know that this is

much appreciated”

“It made my day when the flowers opened up this

weekend!”

“How can we thank these people?”

“This means that Spring is on its way!”
